Pianist Barron Ryan premieres new work commemorating the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre

Tulsa pianist and composer Barron Ryan will premiere a new work, “There Arises Light (in the Darkness),” a piece for piano, violin and cello, as part of an event titled “Lit: A Concert by Candlelight,” 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the Guthrie Green, 111 E. Reconciliation Way.

Ryan’s work, commissioned by Chamber Music Tulsa, commemorates the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and will have its premiere in an area that was devastated by the violence of that event.

The concert will also feature other works from the classical repertoire, as well as some of Ryan’s other original music, in a setting that will be illuminated by hundreds of candles.

The event is part of the Guthrie Green’s Off-the-Cuff concert series. guthriegreen.com.
