“Taiko Swingposium on the Road” sold out for its three Bayside Community Hall shows, on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. This living history performance by San Jose Taiko and the HSU Jazz Orchestra told the story of how the big bands in the Japanese American incarceration camps helped make life behind barbed wire more bearable for the young internees through the joyful escape of big band music and dance. A performance was also presented Jan. 30 at Humboldt State University. All events were coordinated by Taiko Swing Humboldt, a project of the Humboldt Folklife Society. Pictured is a scene from the Feb. 1 matinee performance.
