DRUMFEST! is a hands-on, multi-cultural drumming experience for people of all ages. Presented by percussionist and teaching artist Daveed Korup, DRUMFEST! sparks the imagination with an evocative synthesis of North African and Turko-Persian traditions, interwoven with contemporary Western percussion styles. Custom-designed activities range from in-school assembly performances to extensive artist residency projects, and address specific needs and concerns of the host agency.
A rhythm-based, arts-integrated approach to learning, DRUMFEST! programs and events support strong curriculum connections between world percussion and core subjects -- reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.
The variety and depth of DRUMFEST! programs is as varied and diverse as the students for whom DRUMFEST! was developed, including Kamishibai (Japanese paper theater), World Rhythm Drum Circus, SoundScapes, Gesundheit Theater, Shadow Charades, and the Whack-a-Boom Orchestra.
