A joyful, original Latin music ensemble, Sol y Canto's is steeped in meaningful music that expresses hope for a better world. The heart and soul of this ensemble are Puerto Rican/Argentine vocalist Rosi Amador’s crystalline voice and New Mexican husband Brian’s sumptuous Spanish guitar. Accompanied by musicians from Uruguay, Peru, Panama and Argentina, rich vocal harmonies and churning Latin rhythms create a passionate, poetic performance.Sol y Canto is a three time winner of the Boston Music Award.
Programs Include:
SABOR Y MEMORIA: Flavor and Memory, a musical feast in seven courses. Brian Amador’s newest musical suite about a favorite topic, Latin Food! This concert touches on issues of memory and nostalgia for one’s home country as well as immigration, agricultural sustainability and hunger. The program is performed by Sol y Canto and and renowned Mexican string quartet Cuarteto Latinamericano . From the appetizer through dessert, the suite will combine and contrast Latin musical genres old and new in much the same way that flavors are blended in the cuisine of a new land.There is ample opportunity for community outreach with local restaurants, hunger organizations and farmers’ markets. Every one will want a taste!
EL DOBLE DE AMIGOS: Twice as Many Friends. This bilingual musical family fiesta is completely interactive, featuring calypso, reggae, plena, son, and more. Children and families are immersed in the joys of a bilingual musical experience. NOCHE DE MUERTOS: Welcoming our ancestors Home, illuminates the Mexican Day and Night of the Dead in a multi-media concert featuring Sol y Canto’s vibrant music with large screen projections of Michoacán Mexico. Alters created by community members and traditional Mexican Day of the Dead food will add to the richness of this event.
